Pthalo Blue by Brian Rhodes

Grade Level - 3

"Pthalo Blue" (pronounced "tha-lo") is a very cool jazz waltz for big band. The chord progressions use lots of ii-V-I's that move in sort of a circular motion that fit together really well. The solo changes are in the first alto. Although, there is no written repeat, the solo section may be repeated to include other solos. I feel that this tune would make a unique addition to any big bands repertoire.
