"Captiva Island" is a smooth latin-rock hybrid tune written for big band. The sound is reminiscent of the Rippingtons, one of my favorite groups to listen to. I wrote the tune several years ago as a simple song to solo over, then when arranging it for jazz band, lots of interesting ideas came up, making this arrangement fairly complex for such a simple tune. The beginning features the trumpet (or flugelhorn), then each section gets a chance to play the melody. The solo changes are in the Alto1 and Trombone1. Captiva Island is a small island off the coast of Florida that is great for romantic getaways. |
