Amaryllis by Brian Rhodes

Grade Level - 3

"Amaryllis" (yes, named after the little girl at the piano in "Music Man") is a fairly straight forward latin-light rock hybrid tune for jazz band. I wrote the basic tune at the piano several years ago. The basic feel for this song is a bossa nova, with a slight backbeat on the snare-rim. The only real surprise is the 7/8 measures in the coda which uses a 3+4 feel and sounds real cool. The solo changes are in the first trombone. This tune would add an interesting change of pace to any jazz concert.
