A New Beginning by Brian Rhodes

Grade Level - 4

"A New Beginning" was one of the first tunes written after a serious writing drought. I just sat at the piano and plunked out the basic melody and chord structure. The funk feel is accomplished by playing straight 8ths and swinging the 16ths. This song pays homage to Bob Mintzer's writing style with the 3x repeated section at m.37. The solo changes are in the first alto and second trumpet, but may be opened up to members of the rhythm section. In addition, auxiliary percussion may be added to this very cool funk tune.
